  Massage Therapy Program    

500 Hours

The Massage Therapy degree program is a one-of-a-kind curriculum that provides students with the educational requirements to become a licensed message therapist in Texas and successful in business anywhere in the world.

The Austin Massage Academy offers all required materials for massage licensure, but understands that just knowing massage techniques won't give students the massage education needed to be successful.  Students in this program also get an MBA graduate-designed business education included.

​

The program encompasses every discipline you need to learn to be licensed and to have a successful career in massage therapy:

​

Sports & Deep Tissue:

Advanced circulatory massage techniques and how apply them to improve sport performance, help improve overuse syndrome. Including myofascial release, trigger point, friction, and compression.

​

Swedish Massage:

Learn the history, contraindications, body mechanics, and basic strokes, including Effleurage, petrissage, friction, vibration, and tapotement.

​

Human Anatomy and Physiology:

The systems, including muscular, skeletal, integumentary, cardiovascular, lymphatic, digestive, urinary, respiratory, nervous, and endocrine.  Learn the scientific study of the morphology of the human body.

 

Pregnancy Massage:

Learn proper draping and massage techniques in the side-lying position.

Pathology:

Pathology is the functional and structural deviations from the normal that constitute or characterize a particular disease.  Students will gain a deep understanding of the pathology for each body system.

 

Kinesiology:

Study the actions of all muscles and how they work together. Identify which muscle tension causes pain, postural misalignment, and movement imbalance.

 

Hydrotherapy:

Students learn spa and clinical application of hydrotherapy, including the theory of temperature and forms, contraindications, physiological effect.

 

Human Health and Hygiene:

Learn communication skills, boundaries, ethics, professionalism, self-care, movement skills, diet, exercise, use of disinfections, universal precautions, first aid, and CPR.

 

Business and Ethics:

Study massage therapy rules and laws, business ethics, bookkeeping, taxes, budgeting, marketing, advertising and interview skills.  Also learn how to startup your own business and run it successfully.

 

Student internship:

A 50-hour internship is part of the program. Students are allowed to enter the internship when they are halfway through the program.
